By its history, the Rhône-Alpes Region is the historic cradle of life sciences thanks to the dynamism of major pioneers who, from Pasteur’s first discoveries, forged links between veterinary and human medicine, and between the hospital and industrial environments.

In terms of its infrastructures, the Rhône-Alpes Region has close to 400 public and private healthcare establishments, including three University Hospital Centres (CHU), for a population of 6 million.

Finally, the Rhône-Alpes Region has a great industrial fabric of subcontractors and suppliers.  Businesses which design medical devices also find, in their immediate environment, all the skills needed to develop and manufacture products with a high added value : precision machining, technical textiles, biomaterials, plastics engineering, electronics, software etc.
